Brand Profile

The Spaniard Don Francisco Fonseca first registered the Fonseca cigars brand in 1906. To this day his image still adorns Fonseca's classic cuban cigar box. The cigar factory was set up in several buildings in Havana, Cuba, until it was eventualy established in Quivican, a quaint small town in the Province of Havana, Cuba.

From the beginning, Fonseca cigars became renowned and sought after for the quality and appearance of its handmade Havana cigars.

Production of Fonseca cigars has continued uninterrupted since the Cuban revolution.  Fonseca cigars are now produced at the Lazaro Pena Factory in Havana, Cuba. Fonseca cigars are considered on the milder side for Cuban cigars.  Of the Habanos cigar range, Fonsecas are generally more affordable, and thus among the most popular of Havana cigars in many markets.  The Fonseca cigar brand is light to medium bodied, delicately aromatic, a rich but mild flavour with subtle wood and spice notes.

Each Fonseca Cuban cigar is delightfully presented in a thin protective silk paper wrapper, a distinctive feature of this famous Cuban cigar.

About Habanos Cigars

Fonseca is a brand within the range of Habanos cigars. The Habanos Denomination of Origin certification is applied to all cigars in which 100 per cent of the tobacco used in the cigar has been grown in Cuba. Likewise, it is an essential requirement that all cigars manufactured in Cuba are subjected to numerous quality control checks, both during the agricultural and curing process, as well as during all stages of manufacturing in the cigar factory.

The same rigorous procedures are applied to the selection of the appropriate leaves, quality control, of draw, of the true flavor of each of the Cuban cigar brand names and, finally, the quality of the cigar's appearance and presentation. The quality of the Habanos Cuban cigar is the result of the mystical union of four elements: soil, varieties of Cuban black tobacco, climate and the wisdom of Cuba's agricultural workers and cigar makers.

Numerous attempts to achieve the standards of authentic Cuban cigars in other areas of the world with seeds of Cuban origin have failed to attain the unequalled quality of genuine Cuban cigars. These same elements: the harmonious combination of the sun, the average temperature, atmospheric humidity, soil and subsoil composition are those which make the quality of the Cuban cigar, both in terms of agriculture and manufacturing, unique to Cuba. Therefore, the Habanos Cuban cigar trademark printed on the boxes of brand name Cuban cigars is the guarantee that these cigars are backed by Habanos Denomination of Origin Protection. This is a guarantee of quality and origin that is awarded to only the finest Cuban cigars manufactured in Cuba under the strictest quality control measures, with the best leaves selected from Cuba's tobacco regions.

"Fine little cigar" January 26, 2007
I enjoy one of these little beauties every afternoon with cappucino. A rich floral character with some real body to it as well. About 30 minutes of pure pleasure and a bargain at that! Highly recommended.

"Great Cigar" November 27, 2006
Great little cigar. Was very suprised. It has good amount of smoke and taste. I would recommend this to anyone. It is very light. Burns very well. Did not go out. Took about 30 - 40 minutes to smoke this cigar. Not as good as the Monte #4, but good flavor. For the money a nice Cuban for someone looking for a quick smoke.
